About this map
The Palaeolithic to Chalcolithic sites, coloured by period on the reference map and marked here with each site's one exam fact. The fact names the period, the excavator or the signature find.
Bhimbetka (rock shelters, UNESCO), Attirampakkam, Mehrgarh (on the Kachi plain, now in Pakistan) and the Harappan-precursor sites are the core set. Period-to-tool matching (Lower Palaeolithic hand-axe, Mesolithic microliths) is the concept layer.
UPSC asks prehistory as "which site is known for X" singles. Fix one signature site per period and per region.
