About this map
The straits and canals that control sea trade: the oil chokepoints, the continent dividers, the inter-ocean links. Each marker names the two water bodies joined and the countries flanking it.
This is map-pointing territory: which strait connects which seas, which canal links which oceans. Hormuz, Malacca, Bab-el-Mandeb and Gibraltar are the permanent fixtures; Suez and Panama the canal pair.
Newsmaker straits (Taiwan Strait, Kerch, the Turkish straits) appear through the current-affairs door. Fix the chokepoint-to-commodity logic: oil through Hormuz and Malacca, grain through the Turkish straits.
